Every July a team in the NBA hopes to shift the balance of power by bringing in a big name free agent and this off-season will be no different. There may not be a long list of superstar players in this year’s class but this is the deepest free agent pool we’ve have in quite some time and with all the cap space available this July coupled with the jump expected in 2016, it’s going to make for a very intriguing off-season.
This free agency special targets a specific crop of players and list what would be the best fit for their talents and the team’s needs but also indicate who they will likely ultimately sign with.
When free agency kicks off Wednesday a lot of movement is expected to come. With a huge salary cap increase on the horizon, many players want to get paid. Some free agents have made their moves clear some haven’t but here are five free agents bound to have a huge impact when pen goes to paper with their perspective teams:
Marc Gasol and Mike Conley in New York Knick uniforms alongside Carmelo Anthony next season is the absolute best-case scenario. And while I know this may very well be a pipe dream, the possibility does exist.
Five straight playoff appearances, 50-plus wins in three consecutive seasons and a Western Conference Final run mixed in. The recent run in Memphis has been excellent, but if Marc Gasol goes elsewhere it’s going to get ugly fast.
No one expected the Boston Celtics to be good entering the season. Even with presumably a healthy Rajon Rondo and Jeff Green, they were still widely expected to finish with no more than 30 wins. And to some that may have even been a stretch.
